Wii Media Converter

I designed Wii Media Converter as an application to convert media files into a format compatible with the Nintendo Wii gaming console. It offers a user-friendly interface that allows for easy drag and drop functionality. The application utilizes various libraries to handle audio and video conversion, provide progress updates, and play audio notifications upon completion.

It supports multi-threading for simultaneous conversion of video and audio files and includes built-in error handling to inform users of any issues during the conversion process. While the current version has some limitations, such as the inability to handle certain file types and the lack of cross-platform compatibility, I plan to address these issues and expand the application's capabilities in future updates.

Supported Media Formats

Currently, the Wii Media Converter supports the following video file formats:

• MP4
• MKV  (Available in the 5.25.2023_WiiMediaConverter download)

I am actively developing the application to support audio and image files for applications such as the Photo channel on the Wii. Additional video file formats will also be supported in future updates.

System Requirements

The Wii Media Converter is currently compatible with Windows operating systems. Here are the specific requirements:

• Operating System: Windows 10  (64 bit) 
• RAM: A minimum of 4GB is needed. 
• Disk Space: At least 250MB of free space is required for the program files. Additionally, you should have enough free space to accommodate at least twice the size of any video file you plan to convert. This is to ensure there is sufficient space for the conversion process and the resulting file.

I am planning to add support for other platforms such as Linux, macOS, and Chromebook in future updates. (Getting close on macOS release!) (Windows 10 32 bit is not working right.)

Version 5.25.2023 has made this warning unnecessary as all conversion processes are now killed when the application is closed, but a computer may get on the struggle bus with multiple conversions.  

Warning: There is no limit to simultaneous conversions, and running two or more conversions simultaneously will slow down your computer. Before completing multiple conversions simultaneously , make sure to be familiar with the Task Manager and how to kill a process. The process that you may need to kill is ffmpeg.

Known Issues and Limitations

While I strive to provide a seamless user experience, there are a few known issues and limitations with the current version (5.25.2023) of the Wii Media Converter:

• When a large file is converted, the completion audio may play slightly before the actual completion of the conversion.
• There is no limit to multiple conversions, which can significantly slow down a computer. Please be mindful of this when converting multiple files simultaneously.

I am actively working to address these issues in future updates. However, there may be other bugs or issues that arise. If you encounter any new issues while using this tool, please comment below. Your feedback is critical in improving the Wii Media Converter.

Future Plans

I am continuously working to improve the Wii Media Converter and have several updates planned for the future. Here are some of the upcoming features:

• Settings for 4:3 Aspect Ratio: I'll be adding settings to adjust the aspect ratio for video conversions, including support for the 4:3 aspect ratio.
• Audio Conversion: I'm planning to add functionality for audio conversion. This will involve adding some different functions to the application.
• Batch Converting: I'm working on a feature that will allow users to convert multiple files at once, either by selecting multiple files or by selecting a folder.
• Autonomous Operation: I'm hoping to add a feature that will allow users to add files to a queue for automatic conversion.
• CLI: I'm looking into adding a command line interface that will allow users to add this tool to a project and build upon this tool.
